The Police uncovered a possible domestic or international terrorism network when it searched a speedboat between Chios and Inousses. Two anti-tank rockets, four grenades, two pistols and a large number of explosive devices and ammunition were recovered from the boat.

The four men were on board the speedboat, two Greeks and two Turkish citizens of Kurdish decent, have been arrested, while the Police is conducting searches in Athens, Thessaloniki and Corinth. Two more Greek men who were loitering near the Port Authority of Chios have been detained on suspicion of being accomplices.

Of the two Greeks arrested on the speedboat, one is a 22-year-old student at the Merchant Marine Academy in Aspropyrgos and claimed he was hired to navigate the speedboat to Turkey.

Senior police officers are investigating the possibility that the police and coast guard operation interrupted a transport of weapons to either the DHKP-C or PKK militant group in Turkey. This would confirm Turkish and American accusations that the Greek government has been assisting Kurdish extremists to stage attacks in Turkey.
