The Ministry of Administrative Reform will finalize the criteria for induction in the suspension measure on Thursday. This measure will concern 8,290 working in the public sector.

The likeliest scenario appears to be that the means of recruitment and the certified skills of employees are going to play a greater role than seniority in determining whether an employee will be transferred or dismissed after the end of the 9-month suspension period.

Employees who were recruited through the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP) procedures, which was established in 1994, will be prioritized over other employees. Other criteria, such as language skills, departmental evaluation and family status will also come into play.

The Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated on ANT1 TV that civil servants who were recruited based on skills and merit have nothing to fear. The Minister has also approved regulations which will expedite disciplinary procedures in the public sector.

In the meantime, the Auditors and Inspectors of Public Administration (SEEDD) are updating the individual files of civil servants, in an effort to route out falsified certificates and other discrepancies.
