The Federation of Radio and Television employees POSPERT has issued a statement regarding the prosecution of ERT employees, who were arrested on Monday night on Imittos.

In their statement the Federation claim that “the arbitrary and barbaric acts of the government and suppression forces do not scare or intimidate us, instead it strengthens our struggle and cements our will for our constitutional right to work, public radio and television, the institutions and the demand for democracy and freedom”.

The Federation claims that the charges of damaging public property are baseless, as they are not supported by any expert opinion and was intended “to take attention away from the criminal negligence of the administrator to leave ERT’s property unguarded”.

POSPERT further reports that citizens and the reporter Eva Mavrogenni were humiliated, injured and handcuffed for over twenty hours, for a peaceful demonstration over the government’s non-compliance with the State Council’s ruling on ERT.
