The General Secretary of Public Revenue Haris Theoharis announced that the Ministry of Finances will be lenient towards taxpayers who have delayed in submitting their tax returns. He also stated that there would be no more extensions though.

The General Secretary announce that taxpayers will soon be receiving notices for the 2011 land tax, followed by the 2012 tax in the first two weeks of August and the 2013 tax near the end of September. The goal is for taxpayers to have paid off these taxes by March 2014.

The 499,366 notices for the land tax of 2011 amount to 502.59 million euros, approximately 1,006 euros per taxpayer. This tax can be paid in 7 monthly installments, starting in August.

Mr. Theoharis explained that a record number of 197,000 returns were filed, for a grand total of 3.6 million so far. About 40,000 taxpayers have paid settled their outstanding debts and about 400 million euros worth of taxes have been paid in.
