Citizens who need police protection or escort will have to pay up, according to the Minister of Public Order Nikos Dendias’ decree, which has been approved by the Deputy Minister of Finances Christos Staikouras.

Citizens with an annual income greater than 100,000 euros, who request police protection, will have to pay 2,000 euros a month for every police office and 50 euros a day for the use of any police vehicles. A 4% share will be paid into the Greek Police insurance funds.

Those interested in hiring the police for protection will have to make the relevant application and justify their request. A committee will then determine if police protection is necessary.

Additional costs, such as transport or damages to police equipment are paid by the citizen. The Finances Directorate of the Greek Police will update and publish its bill every month. In the case where a citizen is unable to keep up with payments, the police will cease its protection.
