The Minister of Growth Kostis Hatzidakis and his Deputy Thanasis Skordas have hinted that there is possibility of lifting the ban on the auctioning of primary residences in 2014.

On Thursday the European Commission will publish its evaluation report on the Greek program, where it is expected to suggest lifting the ban on such auctions on the 1st of January 2014.

On Tuesday Mr. Hatzidakis commented that all efforts will be made during the negotiations with the troika, in order to come up with a socially just solution. The Minister also explained that the troika has its own opinion, just like the government.

These comments do not preclude the possibility of a partial lift on the ban, perhaps by establishing a set of criteria allowing the auctioning of primary residences. The Deputy Minister Skordas is in favor of such a measure, claiming that any decisions must be made on time, rather under stress at the very last moment.

The final decision on lifting the ban or not will be made at the end of the year, when the relevant ban is scheduled to end.
