The Minister of Public Order Nikos Dendias and the Chief of the Greek Police N. Papagiannopoulos visited the 26-year-old EKAM officer who was injured in the knee during the gun battle with Marian Kola outside the Vrosina near Ioannina.

During the gun battle on Sunday Kola was shot in the back, while his accomplice Ilir Koupa managed to escape under cover of fog. The search for Koupa is focused on the region between Thesprotia and Ioannina.

Koupa, who is still armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, is thought to be hiding in a gorge which is surrounded by the Police. His intention appears to be to escape to Albania, so roadblocks have been set up near the border.

The police are investigating the mobile phone found on Kola’s body, in hopes of finding further clues regarding their escape and plans.
