Areti Tsohatzopoulou has offered to donate three apartments of hers to the State, one on Deinokratous and two on Kefallinias street, which are implicated in the money laundering case, in exchange for leniency. Mrs. Tsohatzopoulou’s attorney Michalis Dimitrakopoulos explained that all she wants is to return to her children.

Tension was caused in court when the presiding judge Katsianis insisted that former Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos testify by Monday the 29th of July and threatened to cancel the August break unless if necessary. Mr. Tsohatzopoulos’ attorney Leonidas Kotsalis responded that his client would testify “whenever he can”.

Witnesses detail Arcon’s involvement

In yesterday’s session witnesses explained how Vasiliki Foka, former wife of Arcon’s president and managing director Asterios Economides, was implicated in the purchase of one of the apartments on Deinokratous Street. Mrs. Foka insisted on the purchase in order to be near the central building of the department store she owns. The couple argued and ultimately decided to sell it to Mrs. Tsohatzopoulou.

Arcon general manager and childhood friend of Mr. Tsohatzopoulos Dionisis Matzouranis rejected the allegations that Arcon was a front for Mr. Tsohatzopoulos’ money laundering, since it has sound business practices and reputable clients. The firm took up the restoration of the Tsohatzopoulos luxury apartment on Dionisiou Areopagitou despite of the low budget, due to the advertising potential of its central location.
