In order to collect the reduced loan installment of 5.8 billion euros, the government agreed to a number of strict measures to reduce the public sector. As a result, the municipal police, school wardens and a huge number of technical school teachers will face the chop in a bill that has to be voted in Parliament by the 19th of July.

The draft states that the relevant ministers will be able to approve dismissals with a ministerial decree. The draft outlines the abolition of school wardens the municipal police, as well as a range of teacher positions in technical schools, such as aesthetics, obstetrics, graphic design and more. The suspensions will be effective as of the 22nd of July.

The bill also provides a limited number of exceptions, such as disabled employees who live with children or other dependents. Along with teachers who have post-graduate or doctoral degrees they will be transferred to the Directorate of Education, where they will be forwarded to relevant post. Teachers who are dismissed after the suspension period ends will put be on a priority list for future temporary teaching positions in secondary education.
