A report on the delays by the “Molyviatis” fund for fire victims in 2007 will be presented in the Parliamentary Assembly over the next few days. The report will include the findings of the Special Standing Committee on Environmental Protection, which noted that funds were allocated to fund projects in areas that were not affected by the 2007 fires.

The Committee chairperson Dionysia Avgerinopoulou explained that various sports centers and roads were built in areas that were unaffected by the fires, while arguing that in many cases the available funds were mismanaged. Mrs. Avgerinopoulou further notes that six years after the disaster there are no suitable projects in the region to take advantage of the funds.

In its report, the Committee explains that the fund’s assets were transferred to the Public Investment Program and have been frozen, since the troika considers the assets state revenue. This makes funding any project exceptionally hard.

SYRIZA MP Efstathia Georgopoulou-Saltari asserted that a check worth 1.2 million euros that was donated by former PASOK president Giorgos Papandreou has been lost. Mrs. Georgopoulou-Saltari said that “the sum was about a third of PASOK’s election subsidy, but it is not mentioned anywhere, by any bodies and it is our duty to find it”.
