The Attica Traffic Police announced that it performed a number of spot checks and arrested 46 taxi drivers in the past 48 hours, regarding tampered taximeters and registers. The police searched taxis at railway stations, hotels, hospitals and shopping centers around Athens.
In 45 cases the drivers used a telephone cable to interfere with the register, so that they would not issue receipts. Two of the taxi drivers had also tampered with the taximeter itself, allowing them to increase the value indicated. The Traffic Police imposed fines to the value of 180,000 euros.
