The Shah Deniz joint venture has officially announced that it has selected the TAP over the Nabucco West proposal for transferring its natural gas to Europe.

BP’s regional director for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gordon Birrell confirmed the news of the joint venture selecting the pipeline that crosses Greece. The TAP proposal was backed by the Norwegian Statoil, the Swiss AXPO and German E.ON Ruhrgas.

The pipeline will transfer an estimated 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year from the Caspian Sea to Europe, by crossing Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea.
