Stournaras and troika to talk privatizations
The Minister of Finances Giannis Stournaras is scheduled to meet troika representatives Poul Thomsen (IMF), Matthias Mors (EU) and Klaus Masuch (ECB) late in the afternoon.
The main topic on the agenda will be the implementation of the 2013 Budget in light of the 562 million euro deficit in the first five months of 2013. The troika representatives will also discuss the requirements for the collection of the next loan installment worth 3.3 billion euros (public sector dismissals, energy market deregulation etc).
Mr. Stournaras is expected to gauge the troika’s intentions regarding delays in achieving privatization goals, following the failed sale of DEPA. According to the bailout, missed goals will be compensated with budget cuts. Stournaras is also expected to make a case for reducing the VAT in food from 23% to 13% for a six-month trial period.
