The former Minister of National Defense Akis Tsohatzopoulos will be present at today’s session of his trial at the Felony Appeal Court. Mr. Tsohatzopoulos had announced on the 24th of May that he would return when “the [court] deals with serious matters”.

The former Minister chose to abstain from the proceedings as the court has repeatedly refused his request to summon the former members of the Government Council of National Defense (KYSEA) to testify, including former Prime Minister Kostas Simitis. The courts maintain that their criminal investigation is focused on specific allegations of corruption and bribery.

Despite the court not changing its stance though, Mr. Tsohatzopoulos’ lawyer Leonidas Kotsalis has hinted that his client will return soon and intends to bring up the KYSEA matter. Mr. Kotsalis explained that “we have not yet touched upon the bribery issue, as if it is a holy cow”.
