The leader of the opposition Alexis Tsipras spoke at Synaspismos’ Central Political Committee on Sunday, where described the Prime Minister’s “success story” as a disaster story.
Mr. Tsipras stated that “under other circumstances the Prime Minister’s ‘success story’ could be understood as a joke. Or a historic example of absolute lack of awareness, like Marie-Antoinette’s cake”. Mr. Tsipras also called the PM a “parliamentary deserter” and accused him of “lying in his long monologs, where without discussion, he saves the country from the crisis, slanders SYRIZA, declares submission to Merkel and confirms his flirtations with the far right”.
Despite some reservations from the Left Wave, Synaspismos’ Central Political Committee approved the motion to dissolve as part of the plan to develop SYRIZA into a unified party. The absence of Left Wave’s Petros Lafazanis, who has expressed his objection to the plan in the past, was noticeable, with other members expressing moderate opposition.
Mr. Tsipras spoke highly of Synaspismos’ achievements and the necessity of expanding and developing the scope in order rise to the new challenges in the developing European and international front.
