The Police announced that it has arrested a wanted 43-year-old man in Agios Andreas of Attica, who was the member of a heavily-armed gang that committed a number of armed robberies on banks and stores.

According to the first reports, the Police located the 43-year-old at his rented hide-out on the corner of Marathonos Avenue and Tinou Street near Mati. The operation with the support of the EKAM counterterrorism unit took place at 5am, catching the 43-year-old by surprise, unable to respond. Three loaded pistols were found in his possession.

A year ago the 43-year-old and five accomplices robbed the Emporiki Bank in Kalamata and sought refuge in a local house. As the police was closing in on the house, the robbers opened fire. In the gun battle three police officers and three of the armed robbers were injured. The other three robbers, including the 43-year-old, managed to escape.
