The Misdemeanor Court of Polygyros in Halkidiki found three women guilty for clashes with the Police in the Skouries forest during a demonstration against the “Ellinikos Chrysos” mining investment.

The court found the three women guilty of insubordination, insulting officers of the law, attempting to release a prisoner and causing minor injuries. Of the three women, the 25-year-old and 40-year-old were sentenced to 7 months imprisonment each and the 39 year-old to 6 months and 10 days imprisonment. The sentences are suspended for three years.

According to the case file, the prosecutor requested that the defendants be found guilty. The three women denied the charges and claimed their arrest was based on circumstantial evidence and accusations. Residents from the northeast of Halkidiki held a rally outside the courts in solidarity to the defendants.
