Golden Dawn MP Panagiotis Iliopoulos was ordered to leave Parliament today by the Vice President of Parliament Ioannis Dragasakis, in accordance with article 80 of Parliamentary regulations on «antiparliamentary behavior».

The Golden Dawn MP used inappropriate language in reference to the parliamentary auditing institutions and the Opposition leader Alexis Tsipras, whom he accused of living in a fantasy world and dreaming of becoming Prime Minister.

Mr. Dragasakis warned Mr. Iliopoulos of his conduct, with the later insisting and lashing out against other MPs complaining. After repeated warnings Mr. Dragasakis read out the relevant Parliamentary Regulations article on expulsion from Parliament and requested the presence of the guard. Iliopoulos and the Golden Dawn parliamentary group vacated Parliament while chanting “Heil Hitler”.

Golden Dawn issued a statement claiming that the “Seig Heil” that was heard in Parliament was uttered by SYRIZA MP Stavros Kontonis and demanded an apology and that SYRIZA “recalls that phrase immediately”, otherwise it would seek out legal action for slander.

The SYRIZA MP in question spoke to Vima 99.5 and denied the allegations. Mr. Kontonis explained that “they are trying to pass on the blame elsewhere, it is obvious”. Mr. Kontonis added that Golden Dawn’s practice is to “intentionally conceal things, because they want to present something different to what they are”. The SYRIZA MP also reminded that two days ago Golden Dawn MP Pappas admitted to writing a paper in favour of Hitler “in his youth”.

DIMAR MP Niki Founta applauded Mr. Dragasakis decision to make use of the article and requested that it be implemented every time Parliamentary regulations are violated.
