The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras called a ministerial meeting at Maximou Hall in order to discuss the prevention of and response to forest fires. Mr. Samaras requested that everybody contributes and that he will be “very strict if any failure or inaction of the central mechanism and local government in preventing and combating fires

Mr. Samaras revealed that the Secretary of Civil Protection will launch a campaign informing citizens how they can contribute towards the prevention and response to fires. The Prime Minister commented that “the state will its own duty, I am sure each and every one of you will do the same”.

The Minister of Public Order Nikos Dendias stressed that the upcoming tourist season is expected to be particularly difficult regarding fires. According to Mr. Dendias, a new meeting will take pace when the Prime Minister returns from his visit to China.

Furthermore the Minister of National Defense Panos Panagiotopoulos explained that “the Armed Forces will always be there to help out, always under the command of the Fire Brigade, wherever is needed, to prevent whatever is expected in a tough season”.
