The landfill site in Fyli was closed down on Monday morning due to health and safety. The landfill site received complaints that a great number of Romani gypsies trespassing. Since early may there have been calls for the government to increase security of the landfill site, as current measures appear ineffective.
According to the complaints, the Romani gypsies illegally enter the landfill site to scavenge during the early morning hours when heavy trucks and bulldozers are burying the rubbish, putting their lives at risk.
