A 35-year-old Bangladeshi migrant worker living in Athens fell victim to blackmail from a gang of Bangladeshis. The gang contacted the 35-year-old last week demanding 6,000 euros in order to release his brother, whom they alleged to have kidnapped in Turkey.

The 35-year-old man was instructed to pay the ransom to a group in Nea Manolada. When the 35-year-old arrived with a 42-year-old friend and did not have the full amount, they were assaulted and taken to the local health center. There they contacted the police and reported the event. The police arrested the gang a few hours later, recovering knives, clubs and a cricket bat from their hideout.
