The Wednesday afternoon meeting between the Minister of Education Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos and the representatives of teacher union OLME will have a huge impact on this year’s Panhellenic exams.

The teacher union is threatening to launch a strike during the exam period, which begins on the 17th of May and ends on the 14th of June, in response to the government decision to extend the timetables of teachers by two hours.

The union’s board will meet on Thursday to discuss the matter, with local unions being asked to vote on the action to be taken on the 15th of May. The union of private school teachers will also convene on Thursday, in order to decide upon the route of action to follow.

Aside from PAME, all other political factions within the teacher union are in favor of the strike. PAME’s representatives claimed that the repercussions from such a strike would be immense and would likely cause more damage than good to the union movement and their demands.
