SYRIZA’s decision to send a high-level delegation to the ANEL conference last weekend came as a shock, both within SYRIZA and beyond.

Mr. Kammenos’ party had bit addressed any invitation to any “pro-troika” political parties, beyond KKE (which ignored the invite) and SYRIZA, which was represented by secretary D. Vitsas and Mr. Tsipras close partner N. Pappas.

This move confirms speculation that Mr. Tsipras and his associated are seriously considering cooperation with Mr. Kammenos, who appears to be the only political leader willing to work with SYRIZA after the last elections.

This development coincides with the publication of polls which suggest that despite being neck and neck with New Democracy, SYRIZA is losing steam (and potential voters) to the newly-formed “Plan B” of Alekos Alavanos.

While addressing the audience at the ANEL conference, Mr. Vitsas spoke of a “common battle” against the troika politics and despite the differences of ideology and agenda, wished that by the next ANEL conference, Greece would be “free from the troika, independent and proud”.
