Following complaints by PASOK and DIMAR, a regulation regarding the representation at police unions, designed by the Ministry of Public Order and was included in the upcoming bill, has been withdrawn.

According to this provision, new police unions would be formed based on location, while the election of representatives would also change with the introduction of a unified ballot. The regulation was fiercely criticized by police unions when it first appeared in a different bill.

PASOK’s former Minister of Public Order Michalis Chrysochoidis personally contacted the government’s general secretary Panagiotis Baltakos to inform him that PASOK would not support the regulation. DIMAR also adopted a similar stance, leading to the withdrawal of the regulation.

The police unions themselves called the regulation a “brutal interference in the operation and action of unions” and criticized the proposed changes to election procedures.
