The former prefect governor Panagiotis Psomiadis and five of civil servants are on trial in Thessaloniki in relation to the Koronia Lake case. According to the Misdemeanor Council of Thessaloniki, the five are accused of “violating their duties for unlawful gain”.

Mr. Psomiadis is being accused of not forming the relevant teams to examine, preserve and apply fines to the business owners polluting the lake and of delaying the checks of the pollutant businesses. Mr. Psomiadis is also accused of delaying to apply fines that environmental officers suggested, following checks on local businesses, as well as arbitrarily reducing the fines by 24,660 euros.

Former prefect governor consultant M. Tremopoulos and associate professor of biology M. Moustakas have testified in court. Up to ten million euros have been spent on the preservation of the Koronia Lake, to no avail.
