TAIPED, the fund managing the privatization of state property, has announced that airports to be privatized will be split into three different categories, according to the interest generated.
Minister of Growth K. Hatzidakis explained that the first category will include high financial interest airports, the second will include airports with less interest and the third will include all other airports that will be managed by a Regional Airport Management company.
Mr. Hatzidakis explained that the government will still maintain ownership, supervision and control of airports, while auctioning their management to private parties. According to the minister, the Civil Aviation Authority will have regulatory and supervisory responsibilities and will oversee the proper implementation of concession and pricing policies. In order to streamline the Civil Aviation Authority’s operation, 10 directorates and 14 departments are to be abolished and merged.
