Representatives from the 34 roadblocks set up by farmers on the old Athens-Thessaloniki national highway are going to discuss their stance and future action today at the Nikea junction. The farmers, who set up the roadblocks 30 days ago, also participated in the general strike of Wednesday.
Hundreds of farmers blocked the Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki-Efzones artery at the Nikea junction near Larissa with the help of striking workers from other sectors. The block lasted a couple hours, between 1pm and 3pm.
At around the same time, the take-over of the Athens-Patra highway near Velo of Korinthia ended. At noon, the farmers in Korinthia demonstrated against government policies, by raising the toll booth bars at Zevgolatio for 40 minutes, allowing drives to go pass without paying.
In the mean time, farmers from Kalamata returned to the roadblocks at Soulinari in Messinia, despite having initially decided to leave in order to pursue different forms of activism.
