The Shelman factory in Vasiliko of Halkida shut down on the 8th of February, with the management not proceeding with mass lay offs, since the Ministry of Labor did not approve of the practice.
The company issued a statement explaining that Shelman “resorted to the procedure of law N.1387/1983”, however after talks with employee representatives, the Minister announced his disapproval of the mass lay offs. The statement further explains that “the company did not go on with the scheduled mass lay offs and is currently investigating all options offered by the relevant legislation, in order to reduce operation costs”.
Shelman will continue with production, distribution and trade of its goods via its offices and stores in Athens and Thessaloniki, its factory and storage facilities in Komotini and the other companies in its group.
