The President of Parliament Evangelos Meimarakis has received an official request has been made by 88 MPs to ban smoking in Parliament. The request is backed by MPs of New Democracy, SYRIZA, PASOK, DIMAR and independents.
New Democracy MP Andreas Psycharis took the initiative, complaining to his colleagues about smoking in all areas of Parliament, contrary to the anti-smoking law. Mr. Psycharis’ claim was supported by PASOK MP and former Olympic athlete Pyrros Dimas and a slew of other MPs.
Among others, the request is signed by current Minister of Health Andreas Lykouretzos and his predecessors Dimitris Avramopoulos, Andreas Loverdos and Dimitris Kremastinos. The request and full list of MPs supporting it can be found here.
