The Supreme Court Assembly decided to oust a 45-year-old prosecutor from an island, due to the incredible idleness demonstrated in the execution of his duties and his gambling habits
According to complaints, the prosecutor had about 1,700 serious cases to review, many of which were eventually quashed, due to going over the period of limitation. At the same he was known in the local community for his passion for gambling, spending most of his day at the local betting shops.
The accusations came to the Supreme Courts a few months ago, when representatives of the Ministry of Justice visited the island. An investigation ordered by the island’s other judicial audit agency revealed the extent of the prosecutor’s idleness. Local police officers also commented on the prosecutor’s indifference towards his official duties.
It is worth noting that a judicial officer expelled for incompetence instead of corruption can ask to be transferred to a different public service. According to locals, that appears to have been the former prosecutor’s goal.
