The government has decided to requisition the Metro employees on strike. The Minister of Transport Kostis Hatzidakis claimed that “neither the government, nor society can be held hostage to syndicate interests”.
The minister explained that there was no chance of exception to the uniform payroll and that liabilities will be sought for those urging employees to strike, despite the court order declaring the strike illegal.
The union of Metro employees hinted that it would “temporarily” halt its actions, should the government agree to negotiations. The union demanded the preservation of the collectively agreed contract and to negotiate a new one.
The employees on strike are to convene at the Sepolia station to disc their next move. Unions representing employees in other transport services have not yet responded.
