The traffic in Athens is especially bad on Friday, due to the 24-hour strike that the employees of the subway and tram services. The meteorological service also warns of upcoming heavy rainfall and storms, which will make things worse.
The striking employees react to the government plan to include them in the uniform payroll, which they insist automatically violates the Collective Labor Agreement. In their announcement, the unions announced a 24-hour strike on Friday and called for the unions of all public transport services to cooperate in their struggle. They also invited nation-wide worker unions and federations to “being the common fight to defend the Collective Labor Agreements and free negotiations”.
The nation-wide federation of railway workers (POS) issued a statement in support of the strike, promising to coordinate with other unions in order to “overthrow memorandum policies”.
