Authorities uncovered an immigrant trafficking operation in Crete, when they discovered 77 people near Stomio at Elafonisi of Chania, awaiting a ship to take them to Italy.
The Police Department of Chania organized an operation to move the 77 men, women and children to their central headquarters, to determine their identity, their legal status and whether they knew those who arranged for their transport. Following identification, they will be moved to the old mayor’s office in Souda, where their fate will be determined.
Authorities have pressed charges of unlawful exit from the country and are searching for the ship that was meant to transport the immigrants to Italy and the operation masterminds.
