The “LK 37” squat on Lelas Karagianni Street in Kypseli has been reclaimed by anarchists, following a police operation earlier on Tuesday. The building was first squatted in 1988.
The police operation began around 12:30 and lasted about four hours. The 16 people found inside were prosecuted and taken to the Central Police HQ. The police investigation inside the building, without finding anything and left the area around 16:30.
As soon as the police left, a group of people who had congregated outside in solidarity entered the building and reclaimed it. Meanwhile, the 16 who had been prosecuted were set free.
“LK 37” is the oldest squat still operating in Athens. Last week the Police undertook similar operations at two other squats, “Villa Amalias” and “Skaramanga”.
