According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, the Turkish ambassador in Athens has requested in writing that the Turkish state bank Ziraat give loans to Greek farmers and businesses. The Turkish band already has stores in Athens, Xanthe, Komotini and Rhodes.

The newspaper comments that first reactions were “positive” and that most loans would be give in Western Thrace “without discrimination”. The “middleman”, according to the newspaperm will be the UN Development Plan in Athens.

The Turkish Ambassador Kerim Uras has already discussed the issue with UNDP officials. The Turkish side does not object to a Greek band partnering with Ziraat. The Turkish bank’s CEO Hussein Aydin stated that his bank will issue loans if the government covers any damages.
