According to the decision of the SYRIZA meeting, the opposition party will demand that the committee in charge of the preliminary investigation look into the legal liability of PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos in the “Lagarde List” scandal, as well as former Minister of Finances Giorgos Papakonstantinou.

In their press release, SYRIZA also mentions the potential political liabilities of former PM Giorgos Papandreou, among others. The SYRIZA proposal will likely be submitted by Monday.

Also discussed at the meeting was the possibility of SYRIZA requesting the Committee of Institutions and Transparency if Parliament which dealt with this case, be transformed into an Inquiry Committee.

Even if SYRIZA’s proposal fails, the opposition will still participate in the committee that the government will form. The opposition MPs most likely to participate is Ms. Z. Konstantopoulou and Mr. St. Kontonis.

In response, PASOK claims that “SYRIZA is only interesting in the political destabilization of the government” and that Mr. Venizelos is persecuted because “he is guarantor of the country’s political stability and strategic perspective”. In their statement, PASOK concludes that SYRIZA “will fail tragically”.
