Eight of the thirteen accused of being part of a drug dealing gang have been detained, after testifying before a prosecutor in Salonica. The other five, who were deemed to be drug users without an active role in the gang, were released on condition they appear regularly at local police department and don’t leave the country.
Police investigations took place in Salonica, Volos and Agrinio. The accused, who mostly denied their involvement with the group, are thought to have dealt drugs with the assistance of police officers. On Thursday a further eleven alleged members are to testify, with the process being completed on Friday.
Two Albanian nationals, the head of Volos drug enforcement agency and a police sergeant of the immigration services in Salonica are thought to be the masterminds of the operation. So far 39 people have been arrested.
