ERT is to create a tribute in memory of Alexandros Papadiamantis, arguably one of the most important contemporary Greek authors. The tribute begins with the digitization of an episode of 1988 talk show “Antithesis”

In the episode, writer and film critic Pavlos Zannas coordinates a discussion on Papadiamantis, following the 1988 five-tome edition of his complete works compiled by N. Triantafyllopoulos. Guests include philologist Dimitris Plakas, publisher Dimitris Mavropoulos, writer and critic Alexandros Kotzias and writer Zefyros Kakavlidis.

In the show, the story of the publication of Papadiamantis’ complete works is presented, from the first 1954 edition by G. Valeta, to the 1988 edition of the show. The show reveals information on his publications in journals and newspapers of his time, the release of his book and the impact they had on his readership. The discussion focuses on the criticism he accepted, as well as how the 1930s, leftist movement and religious movements dealt with him. The guests also discuss more technical aspects of Papadiamantis’ work, such as his prosaic expressive form and personal narrative technique.
