The recent agreement reached in Brussels between the European Union and Turkey has sparked controversy, with thousands across taking to taking to the streets on Saturday to demonstrate against racism and fascism.

In Athens demonstrations were carried in the city center of Athens, Thessaloniki, Chania and Mytilene, among others. Demonstrations were carried in many major European cities, such as Glasgow, London, Vienna, Nicosia, Zurich and Barcelona.

Demonstrators in Athens and Thessaloniki were joined by refugees and migrant from Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Senegal, Guinea and Bangladesh and protested outside the European Commission Representation in Greece on Omonia Square.

The need for solidarity against the “agreement of shame” was highlighted in the rally in Athens, with protesters taking a stand against deportations back to Turkey and establishing concentration camps in Greece.
