The Deputy Minister of Finances Christos Staikouras has announced that since the end of December 2012, the Ministry of Finances has collected about 2.3 billion euros in outstanding debts. In February the General Accounting Office credited ministries with 1.3 billion euros.

Mr. Staikouras also noted that by the end of March a total of 3.7 billion euros will have been collected, achieving targets set by the memorandum regarding outstanding debts towards. According to the Deputy Minister “this procedure is a priority for the Government, considering the contribution to businesses, households and the economy at large”.

The 2.3 billion euros helped sponsor national organization of healthcare service (EOPYY), the army pension fund (MTS) and hospital (MTS-NIMTS), the welfare fund of civil servants (TPDY), as well as university, military and public hospitals.
