The Minister of Culture, Education and Religious Affairs Aristides Baltas [pictured right] and the Alternate Minister of Education Tasos Kourakis [pictured left] have a major disagreement on the difficulty of university entry exams, to the point where Mr. Kourakis threatened to resign from his post.

The new university entry exam system was to be announced this week, along with a number of other changes that will take effect in education, however the recent clash between the two suggests that there might be some delay.

To Vima has been informed that a meeting was held on Monday to discuss the changes to take effect, with both sides unable to come to an agreement. With time running out, it is likely that a number of these changes will be included in a draft bill to address football violence, rather than a multi-bill announced previously by Ministry.

Where the Minister and Alt Minister appear to disagree is the difficulty of the exams. Mr. Baltas favors “demanding” exams, while Mr. Kourakis favors an “easier” exam system with fewer abstruse concepts in physics etc.

Furthermore, the two appear to disagree on the appointment of regional directors of education. Mr. Baltas is said to be in favor of implementing the law “as is”, while Mr. Kourakis appears to favor the political appointment in these posts.
