The nationwide federation of nursing staff (PANOSOP) carried out an all-night demonstration outside the Ministry of Health on Monday. According to the protesters, they will remain there until the Minister Andreas Xanthos arrives.
The main demand of the protesters is to avoid the further wages cuts of 150 euros that is expected to come into effect in 2017 in healthcare. According to PANOSOP the government will have to harmonize public sector wages with European legislation, which will put a serried of benefits in jeopardy.
As such, the federation has called the government to take the appropriate steps so that the additional wages cuts are averted. The federation has also called for an improvement of healthcare conditions.
