The Alternate Minister of Finance Tryfon Alexiadis explained that at present it is not possible to exempt charities from the ENFIA real estate tax.

According to the Alt. Minister, the exemption is not possible because there is no clear legal distinction between charitable institutions and non-profit legal entities. As such, he lamented, the government is forced to apply the tax on charities.

Mr. Alexiadis however clarified that charities are only obligated to pay the ENFIA tax on real estate assets that they rent and which generate revenue, rather than all assets used to cover their needs.
