According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), broadband fiber optics internet access is lagging in Greece and Belgium.

The OECD’s statistics show that only 0.2% of internet connections in Greece (and Belgium) are via high speed fiber optics networks, indicating the very low penetration rates. The average rate for the 32 countries in the OECD’s list is 17.9%.

Japan tops the OECD list with a 72.6% of internet connections being via fiber optics, followed by South Korean (69.4%) and Sweden (46%).

The OECD urges governments to act quickly and encourage their citizens to use the internet, while improving existing and developing networks. The growth rates for Internet access via fiber optics was 167.12% in Greece and 150.3% in Belgium.
