Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) has arranged to meet with Iranian officials on Friday to negotiate a deal for crude oil, following the lift on sanctions imposed by international community, according to a Reuters report.
Prior to the embargo on Iranian oil exports, ELPE was a major buyer of Iranian oil, which amounted to 20% of its annual imports. An unnamed company officer told Reuters that the possibility of a new deal will be debated and any outstanding financial issues will be settled.
According to a source with knowledge of the talks between Greece and Iran, the Greek oil company owes an estimated 550 to 600 million dollars for purchases that could not be paid following the imposition of the embargo.
The Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Amir-Hossein Zamaninia will also have a meeting with the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Panagiotis Skourletis, added the anonymous ELPE officer.
