Four bodies were recovered off the northeast coast of Farmakonisi on Thursday morning, as the search and rescue operation for about 8 missing refugees, following the capsizing of a boat earlier on Wednesday.

So far 26 people have been rescued, while the bodies of 16 people (7 children, 3 women and 6 men) have been recovered by the Coast Guard. Two young girls with sings of hypothermia who were rescued have been taken to Athens, due to the severity of their condition.

Aside from the Coast Guard’s three vessels and a Super Puma helicopter, a Frontex boat is also participating in the search and rescue operation.
