The President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras rejected the possibility of a post-electoral alliance with New Democracy, while avoiding any direct references to PASOK and the River, in a speech he delivered in Aegaleo on Thursday evening.

In his speech Mr. Tsipras underlined that his party will not cooperate with “patchwork governments, zombie governments, single-use governments, with the participation of Voridis, Psomiadis, Adonis [Georgiadis], Pangalos, Venizelos”.

Mr. Tsipras also avoided any direct references to class struggle and social transformation, while focusing how his party represents the “new” that aims to undo the harm done by the “old” political parties. “We ask for a clear and strong mandate in order to get rid of yesterday and start the long march to win the future” he told his audience.

Earlier, SYRIZA’s Nikos Voutsis told journalists that there was “no possibility” of an alliance with the “two major parties” that support the bailout agreements, hinting that cooperation with other parties, such as the River, was possible. When further pressed, Mr. Voutsis avoided elaborating, noting that SYRIZA would carefully consider its options, provided it comes first in the election and cannot for an independent government.
