Thousands of tourist arrivals from abroad are being cancelled on a daily basis, in response to the dramatic developments of the past few weeks.

While the Alternate Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura has appealed to the media to not harm Greek tourism, the referendum and introduction of capital controls have had a major impact on the country’s main industry.

Last week about 300,000 hotel bookings we cancelled, with industry pundits stressing that unless the situation is normalized immediately, it will be impossible for hoteliers to cover their loses.

The Aegean islands have taken the hardest hit from the latest wave of cancellations, with many tourists turning to destinations in Spain and Turkey.
