SYRIZA’s Zoi Konstantopoulou was elected as the new President of Parliament, after receiving 235 votes in the secret vote that took place at 11am.

Of the 298 MPs who voted, 235 supported Mrs. Konstantopoulou, while 61 threw a blank vote and 2 ballots were invalid.

Both New Democracy and PASOK have publicly supported Mrs. Konstantopoulou’s candidacy. The election of the Parliament’s Vice Presidents, Deans and Secretaries will take place in separate votes in the afternoon.

For the three positions of Vice President the candidates are Alexis Mitropoulos (1st VP), Yannis Balafas (2nd VP), Despina Charalambidou (3rd VP), while Nikitas Kaklamanis will be New Democracy’s candidate.

The candidates for the Dean positions are Nasos Athanasiou and Giorgos Pantzas, while the secretary candidates are Panagiota Dritseli, Danae Tzika, Zisis Zannas and Vasilis Tsirkas.

Furthermore SYRIZA’s Christos Mantas was appointed as his party’s parliamentary group secretary, while Nikos Filis, Thanasis Petrakos and Olga Gerovasili were appointed as parliamentary representatives. Kostas Athanasiou was appointed director of the Parliamentary Group, while Vasilis Hatzilamprou was appointed coordinator of the Government Task Audit Committee (EEKE).
