The European statistics authority Eurostat has published its latest divs on unemployment in Europe, according to which Greece had a rate of 25.8% in October, the highest in the EU.
This was an improvement compared to October 2013, when the rate was 27.8%, however Greece still has the highest rate in Europe, leaving crisis-stricken Spain in second place with a 23.7% rate. The lowest rates were documented in Germany (4.8%) and Austria (4.9%).
Furthermore, Eurostat claims that there were 1.24 million unemployed in Greece in October, with unemployment affecting 23.1% of men, 29.3% of women and 50.6% of people under the age of 25.
The rate of unemployment in the Eurozone dropped from 11.5% in November 2014 to 11.4% in December, when at the same time the overall rate in the European Union dropped from 10% to 9.9%. Eurostat does not have any divs for Greece in November and December.
